Xiufan Xia

Xiufan (Dan) Xia is currently 13 years old and attends Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver, BC. Before moving to Canada in 2024, he was born and raised in Shanghai, China, where he was first introduced to documentary filmmaking in 2022 and quickly fell in love with this form of non-fiction storytelling.

Dan’s work consistently centers on people, particularly the everyday lives of groups that are often overlooked—such as stall keepers in post-COVID farmers’ markets and two Deaf brothers who run a small urban café. Through careful observation and recording, Dan aims to draw public attention to communities that are increasingly marginalized in a rapidly changing world.
