Blagden Alley, NW
BLAGDEN ALLEY, NW, recounts the story of the D.C. Alley Museum according to its creators, Bill Warrell and Lisa Marie Thalhammer. The D.C. Alley Museum is located in Blagden Alley, Northwest D.C, with a rich history that spans decades. The alley started as an urban tenement block, but in the midst of 1960s suburban flight, it became largely abandoned and ridden with crime. In the 90s, it transformed into another home to the local underground art scene. With a burgeoning investment boom in the early 2000s, artists living in this alley were eventually priced out. With support from the D.C. Arts Commission and local businesses, local artists Bill, Lisa, and Rozeal created a public art museum that utilizes the facades of the alley’s old buildings. As a result of the D.C. Alley Museum and the growing businesses surrounding it, thousands of visitors are attracted to Blagden Alley every week.
