Presented in Competition at the first ever edition of Y-CAM Film Festival, Why Not? is a dramatic short film that stands as an early example of Mariah Hall's directorial work, produced when she was a high school sophomore in Wichita, Kansas, demonstrating her early ambition in filmmaking.

The director, Mariah Hall, had been dreaming of a life in film since fifth grade, dedicating herself to it ever since. Her film was created in a single day for a 24-hour film competition. She found nothing more thrilling than collaborating with others to produce a film in such a high-pressure environment. Her team had a great time, and they were excited to see how well their film performed. The filmmakers she dreamed of working with included legends such as Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, and Martin Scorsese. Mariah hoped that everyone would enjoy her film, which was crafted with pure adrenaline and teamwork.

About
Mariah Hall

Mariah Hall is a filmmaker and media executive originally from Wichita, Kansas, where she began her career at a young age. Discovering her passion for storytelling early—citing an interest in film as far back as the fifth grade—she became an active creator in her local youth film community. By her high school years, she was already directing festival-selected works, including the short film Why Not? (2013). She went on to pursue formal training at the prestigious Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University, where she produced her thesis film, Out of Stock.

Following her education, Hall transitioned into the development and business side of the entertainment industry. She has held roles at major production companies such as Marvel Studios and QC Entertainment, gaining experience in high-level production environments. Currently, she serves as a Creative Executive at Tubi, where she is responsible for sourcing and developing original content for the streaming platform, continuing her work in championing new narratives and filmmakers.
